Explore the mystery of portrait sculpture and discover how to transfer dimensions from the live model to a 3-D representation of the head in clay. You will have the opportunity to produce one clay head sculpture ready for firing or mould making. Materials will be provided at low cost and firing can be arranged. Some previous drawing experience is necessary.

Working from live models, this module (designed for all levels of experience) focuses on learning to draw the human head.  You will be helped to choose and develop the particular style most suited to you, by a tutor trained in art schools in both Russia and Britain.  The aim is to give you the skills and knowledge needed to execute recognisable portraits with confidence - a vital step on the way to drawing the whole human figure.

This course is designed for those who have already completed the entry-level life-drawing course, or equivalent. The Certificate will provide ample opportunity for those who wish to portray the human body in various forms and styles. The aim is to give you the skills and ambition needed to take further your figurative art and to produce work suitable for public display.

The sessions will cover drawing techniques, along with those of painting and/or clay modeling, depending on your choice. To encourage artistic advance and give more time to complete artwork, life-models will be asked to maintain poses for successive weeks. You will be guided in developing the particular style most suited to you; and in trying the painting technique of the ‘Old Masters’.
