Explore the mystery of portrait sculpture and discover how to transfer dimensions from the live model to a 3-D representation of the head in clay. You will have the opportunity to produce one clay head sculpture ready for firing or mould making. Materials will be provided at low cost and firing can be arranged. Some previous drawing experience is necessary.

In a course designed for all levels of experience, we will work from live models to explore the major approaches to figurative drawing. You will learn what the artist needs to know about the anatomy of the human body and the main principles of drawing technique, including structural and tonal analysis. After learning or reviewing the essential core skills of drawing the human figure, you will be helped to choose and develop the particular style most suited to you, by a tutor trained in art schools in both Russia and Britain. The aim is to give you the skills and knowledge needed to pursue this attractive, but challenging, genre with confidence.

Life drawing and modelling

Develop your skills in figurative modelling from life in extended practical sessions.  Combine figure drawing with sculpting!  The sessions will cover drawing techniques, along with those of painting and/or clay modelling depending on your choice.  Help and guidance will be provided by a tutor trained in art schools in both Russia and Britain.  The aim of the module is to give you enough time for mastering technique and producing work you can be proud of.
